Cancers figure among the leading causes of death worldwide, accounting for 9.6 million deaths in 2018.

Lung, colorectal, stomach, liver and breast cancers cause the most cancer deaths each year.

The most frequent types of cancer differ between men and women.

1 in 2 people in the UK born after 1960 will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime. Females have the highest lifetime risk of breast, lung and bowel cancers.

There are around 7,400 new ovarian cancer cases in the UK every year, that's 20 every day (2015-2017). In females in the UK, ovarian cancer is the 6th most common cancer, with around 7,300 new cases in 2017. Ovarian cancer accounts for 4% of all new cancer cases in females in the UK (2017).

The most common type of cancer on the list is breast cancer, with 279,100 new cases expected in the United States in 2020. The next most common cancers are lung cancer and prostate cancer. Because colon and rectal cancers are often referred to as "colorectal cancers," these two cancer types are combined for the list.

 

Types of Cancer Treatment

 

You can have surgery when they can remove the tumor out of a person’s body.

 

There is radiotherapy which is radiation targets a specific spot where the cancer mass is, and they can in affect laser it out.

 

Also, there is chemotherapy which is a drug administered through injection that finds the Cancer cells and starts to kill them, this treatment can be done over several sessions.

 

Immunotherapy this is a type of cancer treatment that helps your immune system fight the Cancer cells.

 

Targeted therapy is a cancer treatment that uses drugs to target specific genes and proteins that are involved in the growth and survival of cancer cells.

 

Hormone therapy is a cancer treatment that slows or stops the growth of cancer that uses hormones to grow.

 

A procedure in which a patient receives healthy stem cells (blood-forming cells) to replace their own stem cells that have been destroyed by treatment with radiation or high doses of chemotherapy.

 

Precision medicine is an approach to patient care that allows doctors to select treatments that are most likely to help patients based on a genetic understanding of their disease.

Gabe- All three nans have had a form of Cancer, 1st one had lung and liver Cancer, 2nd had breast Cancer and the 3rd also had breast Cancer. The first time it didn’t really affect you due to being too young and didn’t understand. Second time she lived far away so didn’t feel too much emotion. And she had it for a long time. Third time was the hardest to deal with, because they were very close.
