Secondary research Cancers figure among the leading causes of death worldwide, accounting for 9.6 million deaths in 2018. Lung, colorectal, stomach, liver and breast cancers cause the most cancer deaths each year. The most frequent types of cancer differ between men and women. 1 in 2 people in the UK born after 1960 will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime. Females have the highest lifetime risk of breast, lung and bowel cancers. There are around 7,400 new ovarian cancer cases in the UK every year, that's 20 every day (2015-2017).
